At First Steps Nursery we understand that we have a huge responsibility to make sure the food we serve is of the best quality. Healthy eating is not just about what we eat, it’s also about educating the children and giving them the knowledge and independence to make healthy choices that will leave them in good stead for the future.

It is very important to establish balanced and healthy eating habits early on in life. A balanced diet is vital for a child’s growth and development. At First Steps Nursery we have dedicated professional cooks who are well trained in producing the excellent standards of food required.

All our food is healthy, tasty and cooked on the nursery premises in a well equipped kitchen using fresh, locally bought ingredients. During the day we provide children with breakfast from 7.30am-
8.30am, healthy snack at 9.15am, lunch at 11.00am, tea at 3.00pm and an afternoon snack at 4.30pm.

At First Steps Nursery we can cater for a range of dietary requirements such as, vegetarian, dairy free, gluten free etc. When your child starts attending nursery you will be asked about their dietary requirements, allergies and food preferences. Our weekly menus are displayed within our reception area for parents to view.

For our babies weaning, food is prepared to suit the individual needs of each child. We start weaning with freshly prepared vegetable puree mixed with baby rice or on their own depending on their stage of development.

We believe that meal-times should be a happy, sociable time where different, healthy foods are tasted and eating skills can be developed. We encourage children to say ‘please’ and ‘thank-you’ and this is promoted by staff modelling good behaviour and also saying ‘please’ and ‘thank-you’.
